Press freedom declaration is "What Mexico needs most"

August 17, 2009

( Ijnet) For six months, Benjamín Fernández, Knight International Journalism Fellow in Mexico, has been dedicated to writing a document called “Compromiso para la Libertad de Expresión, México 2009” (Commitment to Freedom of Expression. México 2009), which will be signed this Monday at the National Anthropological Museum in Mexico City.
The document outlines key promises and reminders for journalists, judges, legislators, and business owners regarding "the importance of freedom of expression in a democracy and the central role the press place in promoting peace," Fernández told IJNet. "This is just what Mexico needs most."
