Fopea criticizes use of hidden camera by TV show
August 17, 2009
(Knight center)The Argentine Journalism Forum (Fopea) condemned the use of a hidden camera by the show 70.20.10 on Buenos Aires-based Channel 13. Last month, the program broadcast the testimonial of a 77-year old woman who had become a prostitute, recorded without her knowing.
Fopea believes that hidden cameras are only legitimate in exceptional cases when personal rights are not violated and sources are not put at risk. In the case of the Channel 13 report, the victim suffered serious consequences due to having her testimonial aired in prime time on a broadcast TV network, which was later replayed by other stations.
