First European Media Encounter Tackles Media, Diversity and Racism in Sports.
October 17, 2011
Media educators, journalists and journalists trainers convened in Brussels, Belgium on 11-14th October to exchange and share professional practices in the field of journalism training and media literacy in relation to sport issues, non-discrimination and expression of diversity.
Discussions highlighted the need to increase diversity in the newsroom, the importance of setting solid journalism standards to strengthen media quality, the little space given to women’s sports and the need not to ghettoise sports in the news.
This workshop is part of the MARS (Media Against Racism in Sport) project, an EU- Council of Europe funded programme aimed at creating a European media network against racism and for intercultural dialogue as an open and permanent platform of dialogue and action between mainstream media and diversity and ethnic minority media.
